TRIED AND TEST from the elementary classroom. Musical Cognitive Apprenticeship (MCA) is constructed on Vygotsky’s socio-cultural theory. Each learning/training activity aligns with the six teaching methods of Musical Cognitive Apprenticeship and a music learning community. The ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate) is the framework for this curriculum with the learning outcomes aligned with Bloom’s Taxonomy. Each lesson implements Gagne’s Nine Events of Instruction as well as incorporating visual, aural, and kinesthetic learning styles. More importantly key concepts are linked to musical melodies and rhythms. This curriculum inspires a culture where the teacher is the facilitator and creates a learning environment where everyone is learning including the teacher. The teacher is not the sole protector of knowledge but leans on the culture of the classroom to create an environment of musicality where students feel empowered to contribute.
